About this plan

Most non-vegetarian Indian homes do not eat meat at every meal, and a plan that pretends otherwise is both expensive and exhausting to cook. This week puts meat or fish in one main meal a day and keeps the other one vegetarian, which is how the food actually shows up on the table.

The meat is spread deliberately: chicken on Monday and Tuesday while it is freshest, fish mid-week and Friday, eggs wherever a quick meal is needed, and mutton reserved for Sunday lunch when there is time to cook it slowly.

Grocery quantities are for a family of four. Buy the fish on the day it is cooked if you can — otherwise clean it, portion it and freeze it the day it comes home.

What makes it work

  • One meat or fish meal a day, not two — the week stays inside a normal grocery budget
  • A single onion-tomato masala base carries the chicken curry, egg curry and kadhai chicken
  • Sunday mutton is the only slow-cooked dish; every weekday main is under 40 minutes
  • Eggs cover four breakfasts, so no weekday morning needs planning

The full week, Monday to Sunday

Breakfast, lunch and dinner for all seven days. Import it and every slot lands in your planner, where you can swap any dish.

Questions about this plan

Can I move the mutton to a different day?
Yes, but keep it on a day you are home. It is the one dish in the week that wants 60–90 minutes. Swapping it with Saturday lunch works well; swapping it into a weekday usually ends with it not being cooked.
How do I make this week cheaper?
Replace the mutton with chicken and the fish with eggs — that alone takes roughly a third off the meat bill. The vegetarian half of the week is already inexpensive.
Which fish should I buy?
Whatever is fresh locally. Rohu, katla and surmai all suit the curry, and surmai, pomfret or bangda suit the Friday fry. The plan is written around a firm fish that holds together in gravy.
